Hidden Histories is a song I wrote for my son Eden, who is autistic and non-speaking. This short cut sets it to footage of our everyday life: the park, the swing, the backyard, Eden watching his TV. It has become the theme song of What About Autism.
I’ve played guitar most of my life. When words fail, music is where I go.
Eden can’t tell his story. So I wrote him a song.
About the song
It’s called Hidden Histories. I wrote the lyrics and the music, and produced it with the help of AI. The full song runs about five minutes, and this video is a shorter cut set to footage of our ordinary life together. The park, the swing, the backyard, Eden with his TV.
Why music
Sound is a big part of Eden’s world. Music is one way I can say things about him that I can’t always say straight.
Hidden Histories is now the theme of What About Autism. You’ll hear different versions of it at the end of the longer films, each one shaped to fit the story.

Questions people ask
Who wrote Hidden Histories?
Tim Brand wrote the lyrics and music for his son Eden. It was produced with AI (Suno) and is the theme of What About Autism.
What does non-verbal or non-speaking autism mean?
It means an autistic person doesn’t use spoken words to communicate, or uses very few. It does not mean they don’t understand. Eden communicates with his hands, his sounds, his face and by leading us to what he wants.
